After many years working with and supporting engineers at National Oceanography Center (NOC) in Southampton, UK. Their Autosub Long Range now named “Boaty McBoatface” has been prepared to dive into the abyss on its first Antarctic mission.
The support has included initial design of the mission control board which uses a low power ARM based Triton System on Module (SoM) plus embedded operating system.
The NOC’s Autosub Long Range is joining ocean scientists from the University of Southampton and British Antarctic Survey (BAS) on an expedition to study some of the deepest and coldest abyssal ocean waters on earth – known as Antarctic Bottom Water (AABW) – and how they affect climate change.
Direct Insight wishes the team all the best for a successful mission over the next few weeks.
